Thakabasadi B. Machioudi (Thaka)
born in South Africa Orange Farm, has
carried over with her to the U.S. her passion for dance. She relocated in2000 and attended James Hubert Blake High School, a Fine Arts and Humanities school, where she studied art and Intro to Modern Dance. She studied and performed at Seipone Primary School and is currently looking into studying criminal law and dance to further her education. A true artist at heart, Thaka developed most of her skills in drawing, painting, and dancing by remaining true to them. Although dancing was the art form that caught most of her attention, she continued to strive and live up to all of her expectations by exploring all of her talents in whichever form presented itself.
Thaka has broken through many personal barriers over the years, which have made her the strong character she is today. With her great attitude and tremendous sense of humor, she rarely goes by unnoticed. Her expression through dancing at Lesole’s Dance Project is one that hits home for her and has made her proud of the roots from which she comes, the culture she holds dear at heart, and the identity she has evolved into. Lesole’s Dance Project is a company that creates and performs works that highlight the unique qualities of contemporary modern and Afro-Fusion dance; where Thaka has been a member for more than eight years. The company provides educational residency programs on the movement and history of popular Traditional South African dances such as Gumboots, Indlamu and Panstula. The sky is only the limit for Thaka. She continues to challenge herself for greatness and is not letting anything or anyone stand in her way while reaching for success.
